NTMoFA presents Taiwan’s fine arts history, collections online

The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) is presenting the "Taiwan Art History in the Comics" online exhibition and launching a newly revamped "NTMoFA Collection" website to provide easy access to the arts. Amid this pandemic, NTMoFA invites book and art lovers to become immersed in the beauty of Taiwan's culture while sheltering in place.

As part of the "Themed Exhibitions Online" section of the 2020 Taipei International Book Exhibition (TiBE) that is taking place virtually, NTMoFA will be hosting "Taiwan Art History in the Comics" to promote Taiwan's art history through the lens of technology and comics. Book fair participants will have access to free materials, special downloads, and online discounts.

The first wave of activities will include online shopping discounts, free daily reading samples, and sign-language learning videos. Free reading samples of NTMoFA's "Home Museum — Artist Biographies (家庭美術館—美術家傳記叢書)" series on Taiwan's senior artists will be made available for download from May 15 through June 3. Additionally, beginning from June 4, a series of sign-language learning videos arranged from easy to advanced will be on view for everyone to learn the basics.

The second wave of activities will be held in celebration of the museum's 32nd anniversary by inviting the public to read books and view online exhibitions starting in mid-June. A smartphone and desktop wallpaper set designed by Golden Comic Awards laureate HOM (翁瑜鴻) will be freely available for download then, to give viewers a different visual arts experience through comics.

In addition to the wealth of online events, the museum has officially launched the new "NTMoFA Collection" website. This classic collection is an accumulation of 11,707 pieces of Taiwanese art, dating from the 18th century to the present and comprising various media and individual artistic styles.

The "NTMoFA Collection" site has a streamlined browsing experience, high-quality digital images, and an optimized search function for viewers to easily find specific artists and artworks, while also providing more stories and inspiration behind the art pieces. Viewers can register as a member to create their own "collection" of favorite works.

More events and activities will be announced through the museum's Facebook page.
